Overland Rice Loan to N.Korea Starts Friday

Starting Friday, South Korea's government will begin overland transportation of its rice loan to North Korea. The whole process is expected to take five weeks.
According to Seoul's Unification Ministry, 50,000 tons of rice out of the 400,000 promised will be delivered to the communist nation through the reconnected Gyeongui and Donghae railroads.
The remaining amount is to be delivered by sea.
The overland transportation of rice loan comes as part of an agreement reached during April's cross-border economic cooperation talks.
This is reportedly the third rice shipment to the North via the land route following those in 2004 and 2005.
